2. Gotham City - Exp - Jan - Down Under
Event information
This event is full.
Hi all,
Jan, Trevor and Peran are taking Down Under to Gotham City on Sunday, 20th November. Gotham City is north of Moreton Island and is one of the most spectacular dive sites in Queensland. Featuring a giant granite rock 15 metres tall, 40 metres long and 25 metres wide, with sheer cliffs off all edges. It comes up along a steep wall out of the sandy base at 37 metres, the top of the wall is at around 26 metres and the top of the rock is 22 metres deep. Many divers compare the sight to a small version of the famous Uluru (or Ayers Rock). The rock is decorated with corals, including black coral trees and sea whips, and is a great place to see spotted eagle rays and wobbegong sharks. Snapper, batfish, gropers and barracuda are also regular visitors to Gotham City. Our second dive will most likely be shallower on the famous Flinders Reef.
This trip is for experienced divers, as the site can have strong current and is in open water with not protection from waves and weather. The site is deep, divers can stay above 30 metres to enjoy the site. Nitrox is a good option for this site.
We will be returning to shore around 4pm and be back at the shed by 6pm to unload and wash the boat. Dive gear is your responsibility and as there are a number of trips running concurrently that weekend, gear hire from Unidive may be at best limited. Be prepared.
There will be a trip meeting at the shed the Thursday before, 17th November 6:30pm sharp, for a briefing. Volunteers are required for the following tasks: food, finance, filling tanks, trip report. The expected cost will be between AUD$ 80 and AUD$ 100.
Cheers
