Location: Eastern Morton Island.

Hi all,

Loch, Doug and I are taking the Unidive vessel, Down Under, to dive the eastern side of Morton Island on the 10th Aug 2016.  What’s that I hear you say, “But this is a Wednesday?", ... It’s the Ekka Show holiday in Brisbane so we have the day off.  You beauty! ….. So the question is, where would you rather be?   Being hassled by people at the Ekka or hanging out with the Kool Kids and Grey Nurse Sharks on the other side of Morton Island?   I know what I’m doing.

If the answer is for the affirmative then the boat ride to the East side of Moreton Island will take between 60- 90 minutes through the rough South passage, so bring a jacket and sea sickness pills.  The plan is to dive one of sites on the eastern side of Morton Island – China Wall, Hendersons Reef or Cherubs Cave, with the chance to see grey nurse sharks. Current may be present and the maximum depth around 30 m so nitrox is preferred gas.  This trip is only for experienced divers which means you need to have >40 dives, experience with current as well as good navigation skills. We will be returning to shore around 4pm and be back at the shed by 6pm to unload and wash the boat.

There will be a trip meeting at the shed on the Thursday night (4 Aug 6:30pm Sharp) for a briefing.  Boat handlers are Loch and Doug with volunteers required for the following tasks: snacks, finance, filling tanks, trip report.   The expected cost will be between $80 - $100. Please bring $50 cash deposit on Thursday night with balance required on the day.   Unidive gear hire will be available on the day if required but dive gear is your responsibility.
