Event information

Registration for this event closes at Wed 30 Apr 2025 09:00.

The PADI Rescue Diver course will make you a much more confident diver because you will have the exact know-how to act in case of diving emergencies or missing divers and more importantly, you will know how to prevent these events from happening in the first place!

COURSE LAYOUT:

  • ONLINE TRAINING:

Start your independent online training at home through the world-class PADI eLearning system. We will issue this to you once course numbers have been met and everyone has paid the registration fee, thus once the course is fully confirmed. PADI will send you a link to begin your eLearning, so keep an eye on your inbox.

  • ORIENTATION NIGHT / THEORY NIGHT: Wednesday 14th May 5:30PM -> Late @ UQ Classroom

Meet your instructor and fellow students, review your online training, and discuss course logistics and details.

  • OPTIONAL - Loan Gear: Thursday 15th May 6:00PM @ Club Shed

As a Unidive member, you can loan gear from the club the Thursday before our dives (6:00 PM 15/05/2025). Please see Diving -> Loans on the Unidive website for more information. Note that you can only borrow BCDs, regulators and wetsuits from the club, all other gear you need to purchase. When registering for the course, please indicate what loan gear you require. The Thursday before our Rescue pool + ocean dives also happens to be the club AGM, so please join us to reflect on the year, eat food and look into the next year.

  • POOL DAY: Saturday 17th May 9:00AM -> 6:PM @ UQ Aquatic Centre

Spend a full day in the pool practising rescue skills and going through scenarios.

  • OCEAN DAY: Sunday 18th May 9:00AM -> 3:PM @ Tweed Heads

Run through a range of scenarios to put the theory and skills you have learned into practice! Bring an unresponsive diver to the surface, practice surface rescue scenarios and learn how to get reunited with a lost buddy or lost gear!

COURSE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Be an Advanced Diver (PADI AOW Diver or equivalent)

This course is only for certified Advanced Divers. Please ensure that your dive certification is up to date on your Unidive profile.

  • First aid + Advanced Resus + Oxygen Provider certification

To gain your Rescue diver qualification, you need to have your HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), HLTAID015 Provide Advanced Resuscitation and HLTAID011 Provide First Aid qualifications up to date. HLTAID009 and HLTAID015 must be renewed annually and HLTAID011 every three years. If your qualifications are in date, simply register to the rescue course and send the certificates to training@unidive.org. If you need to complete these courses you have two options:

  1. Organise through any Australian accredited first aid training facility and send the certificates to training@unidive.org before the orientation session.
  2. Unidive is offering these qualifications at UQ campus in June, through PulseStart.  You may register for this rescue course and one of the two PulseStart training events in June, as long as you ensure to complete the PulseStart online training before the rescue course orientation session. This way you will have all the knowledge you need to get the full experience of the rescue course. Please note that you will not be certified as a Rescue diver until you have completed the PADI rescue course in May and PulseStart training course in June.
