Hello everyone!
Time to get back in the water!!!
We are planning our big WELCOME DIVE on 1 March at the Tweed River and we want you to come along! This will be a shore dive and is ideal for Open Water divers and above.
The Tweed River dive site has an average depth of 8m with the option to drift from a small beach or enter and exit via a set of conveniently located stairs. You can encounter various fish such as lionfish, frogfish and moray eels, as well as rays, octopus and turtles and if you're lucky, dolphins!
To make this as smooth as possible, we will need volunteers for
- surface watch
- experienced divers who are happy to lend a helping hand to less experienced divers
- BBQ-ing
The cost will be $40, which will include tanks, weights, carpooling and a barbeque lunch after the dive. Gear hire is extra and will need to be arranged on the Thursday night before the dive. We will meet on Thursday night for the pre-dive brief where we will discuss the arrangements for the day including carpooling. High tide is at 9:13 am Qld time, so we will have to leave fairly early, but that means that we will not be finishing very late.
Each diver must:
- Be a current Unidive member, medically fit to dive, who passed the swim test.
- Have an Open water certification or equivalent.
- Have dived in the last 6 months.
- Dive within their certification and capability.
- Ensure that they have all required dive gear (except tanks and weights, which are provided): Please bring your own mask, snorkel and fins, as Unidive does not provide these.
- If you need to hire other equipment such as BCD, reg and wetsuit, arrange these before the trip (typically at the Unidive shed on Thursday night before the trip). Please note, there will be no time to sort out gear hire on the day of the trip.
- You must dive with an SMB / safety sausage, cutting device and whistle. Note: These items are NOT supplied.
- Follow instructions given by the Dive Supervisor.
- Help out throughout the whole day.
- Notify the Dive Officer and Trip Organiser of any changes to their personal circumstances as declared in the event registration form.
- Attend the trip meeting (usually on the Thursday beforehand at 6:30 pm at the Unidive shed).
The trip briefing will be held on Thursday 27 February 2025 at 6:30pm, at the shed. Please attend to organise gear and carpooling!
If you have any questions about the trip, please email dive@unidive.org
Hope to see you there!
