Hi

Note: Please ensure that you fulfil the requirements outlined below before you sign up.

We plan to do two dives at Julian Rocks, Byron Bay, launching from Brunswick Heads. The sites visited will depend on the conditions, and this trip will be for Experienced Divers only. Timing for the day is based on tides to allow safe bar crossing.

Julian Rocks Nature Reserve is one of Australia's top dive sites. It is a collection of six very different dive sites, some of which are suitable for OW divers, and some which are deeper and more challenging, with the depths ranging from 6 - 24m. Diving is excellent all year around. In the summer, many leopard sharks are present and divers have a good chance of seeing mantas. In the winter, this is a good place to see Grey Nurse Sharks. Wobbegongs and turtles are very common. This is where tropical and temperate waters meet, creating an incredibly diverse environment home to over 500 species of fish and over 1000 marine species in total.

Please note that this will be a fairly long day, as Brunswick Heads is a two-hour drive from the Shed, and please note the requirements below before you sign up as this is an Experienced trip. Each diver must:

  • Be a current Unidive member, medically fit to dive, who passed the swim test.
  • Have an Advanced certification or equivalent from a recognised agency.
  • Have a minimum of 25 dives at 10 different dive sites.
  • Dive within their certification and capability.
  • Ensure that they have all required dive gear (except tanks and weights, which are provided):
    • Please bring your own mask, snorkel and fins, as Unidive does not provide these.
    • If you need to hire other equipment such as BCD, reg and wetsuit, arrange these before the trip (typically at the Unidive shed on Thursday night before the trip).
    • You must dive with an SMB / safety sausage, cutting device and whistle. Note: These items are NOT supplied.
    • Please note that there will be no time to sort out gear hire on the day of the trip.
  • Follow instructions given by the Boat Handlers and the Dive Supervisor.
  • Help out throughout the whole day.
  • Notify the Dive Officer and Trip Organiser of any changes to their personal circumstances as declared in the event registration form.
  • Attend the trip meeting (usually on the Thursday beforehand at 6:30 pm at the Unidive shed).

If you have any questions about the trip, please email the Trip Organiser, mikaelholmqvist (at) gmail dot com
