Event information

This event is full.

We have the opportunity to dive one of the best dive sites for seeing Grey Nurse Sharks in Australia - Wolf Rock. This trip is chartered for Saturday the 1st of July 2023 with Wolf Rock Dive in Rainbow Beach. It's about a 3 hour drive from UQ, so we will be leaving at about 5 am on Saturday morning for a 8 am check-in.

The description of this site on our webpage does not do the site justice. Located 2km off Double Island Point, Wolf Rock was classified as a marine sanctuary in 2003 when it was observed to be the only known gestation site for the critically endangered Grey Nurse Shark on the East Coast of Australia. These stunning fish can be found there all year in large numbers and it is common for there to be 40+ on any one dive. They are far from the only large creature to be found there, and you should expect to see plenty of large Bull Rays, turtles, large grouper, and at the right time of the year (now), Manta Rays and Humpback Whales. It really is a fantastic site.

We have 9 total spots available and the price of a double dive is $200 including two tanks, with an additional cost of $30 if you want to dive Nitrox, but excluding gear hire. (if you need hire gear, please check out our loans webpage https://www.unidive.org/diving/loans/). While not mandatory, we hightly recommend Nitrox for this event.

We will carpool from the shed so please advise if you are prepared to drive. The trip will be filled on a first come, first served basis.

Notes on Payments:

Because we are chartering a boat, we will need payment to be completed as soon as possible after registering. Wolf Rock DIve have asked that we make one payment for the deposit ($100), which I will pay, and I'll ask everyone who signs up to pay me. The balance can be paid on the day. All deposits will need to be paid within 1 week of registering. If for any reason you need to withdraw from this dive, elligibility for a refund will be dependent on us filling your place on the trip, so please ensure you can definitly make the dive prior to signing on. That said, if the event is oversubscribed, we will be maintaining a waiting list for members who miss out, and will do our best to fill your spot if you need to cancel unexpectedly. If the dive is cancelled by Wolf Rock due to weather we will reschedule, and you will be eligible for a refund if you can't make the new date.

To iron out the details, we will meet the Thursday night beforehand at 6:15pm at the shed.

Please note each diver must:

  • Be a current Unidive member, medically fit to dive, who passed the swimming test
  • Be at least Advanced Open Water certified or higher
  • Have completed at at least 30 dives across 10 different sites
  • Have dived in the last 6 months
  • Dive with an SMB/safety sausage, cutting device and whistle. (We don't hire these, but may have some available at the shed)
  • Bring their own mask, snorkel, and fins as Unidive does not hire them
  • Dive within their certification and capability
  • Follow instructions given by the boat crew, and dive supervisor
  • Help out throughout the whole day

If you have any questions about the trip, please email dive@unidive.org.
