Event information

This event is full.

We have the opportunity to dive one of south-east Queensland's best dive sites ! This trip is chartered for Saturday 12th of August 2017 with Sunreef in Mooloolaba.

The ex-HMAS Brisbane was a 133m long destroyer in the Royal Australian Navy. After 34 years, serving in both the Vietnam and Gulf war, the ship was decommissioned in 2001. Then in July 2005 the ship was sunk just off the Sunshine Coast as a artificial reef and dive site. The wreck has since been colonised by sponges, soft corals, and hard corals, while over 200 different species of fish have been sighted in the area.

As the bottom of the wreck lies in about 27m depth, this trip is recommended for experienced divers, which means that in order to come along you must hold an advanced diving certificate, as well as have done 30+ dives over 10+ dive sites. However, I talked to Sunreef staffs and got replied that they have a dive guide on boat can take up to 6 Open Water divers. For other 6 divers, you must meet experienced diver requirements which are 40 dives and 10 dive sites as we don't have another guide leading us!

I have chartered the whole boat from Sunreef, which means that there are 12 spots on this trip, 1 spot for me, 11 spots for other divers. The costs will be roughly  $110pp for the charter and $30 for tanks & weight with the option of a free upgrade to Nitrox for anyone certified, which comes to $140 total for a double dive at the wreck. Apart from tanks and weights, gear hire will remain your responsibility.

If this all sounds good, go ahead a register and save your spot on this trip. As soon as the participants list has filled up, I will ask you pay a deposit of AUD $100 for the charter through online transfer. We will have a briefing on Thursday prior to this trip. Meeting time.
