Hire dive gear from Unidive

General Info

The gear shed hires gear from 6:00, and we like to go swimming just before 7pm - so if you want to hire gear you need to get there by about 6:15 and not expect anything to happen if you turn up at 6:50

To hire gear you need to already be a current UniDive member - not an out of date one ;o)

Things we loan:-

  • REG SET including occy, computer, SPG and compass
  • BDC
  • WET SUIT
  • TANKS
  • BAGS
  • WEIGHTS

Things we don’t loan (anything in BOLD you HAVE TO HAVE to dive with UniDive):-

  • MASK
  • FINS
  • KNIFE/CUTTER
  • SAFTEY SAUSAGE/SURFACE MARKER
  • Cameras
  • Lights
  • Hoods
  • Gloves
  • Booties

We sell (stock permitting) cutters and safety sausages, you don’t have to buy from us, but you do have to have them with you on every dive to dive with UniDive

There are a load of Dive shops in and around Brisbane that will sell you good quality dive gear, some of the local dive sites need you to have booties (becuase of rocks etc.). If you are buying new fins, it's worth keeping this in mind

For advice on buying dive gear just send the Loans Officer and email, or come down to the shed and you will find all sorts of opinions on what "good" dive gear can be - we can always point you in a good direction for gear

Rules of Hiring

Deposit and subscription details are recorded on your personal LOANS SHEET and kept in the file at the shed

When you hire each piece of gear has a number that is recorded and checked out, when you bring the gear back after a trip the gear is checked back in. You cannot hire gear without it being recorded and checked out

The gear you hire is your responsibility, treat it as if it were your own gear. Reporting damage is vital, make sure any damage is clearly pointed out to the loans officer and/or trip organiser.

An email to the Loans Officer with news of damaged gear after a trip is very welcome - would be great if you could do this

You are responsible for checking your gear before you hire it for damage, the Loans Officer will do this with you. Gear must be returned in the same condition as it was hired. Your deposit is at risk if gear is mistreated.

Tanks full. Gear clean.

This one does cause problems, so try to burn it into your brain - tanks come back full, gear is always clean

If you have any questions about cleaning gear just ask the Loans officer or an experienced UniDive member – just remember to keep the cap tight on your regs when cleaning. Forgetting this simple rule is the most usual cause of damage and loss of deposit

Divers going on Club trips have priority over divers hiring gear for non-Club trips. Club Dive Gear cannot be used for research dives e.g. on Heron Island or the like

ALL GEAR MUST BE RETURNED THE THURSDAY AFTER YOU HAVE BORROWED IT AT THE LATEST - UNLESS YOU HAVE MADE AN ARRANGEMENT WITH THE LOANS OFFICER

IT IS NO LONGER POSSIBLE TO HIRE GEAR FOR MORE THAN A SINGLE THURSDAY TO THURSDAY WEEK LONG PERIOD - NO LONG DURATION HIRES, NO EXCEPTIONS

Remember the first night you hire gear you will need a deposit on top of the gear that you will be hiring - please remember that we only take cash (not IOU's, or your father's watch) and bringing the right money is very appreciated
